Perez Hilton photographed by François Rousseau for Out
Our next round of honorees for the 2007 Out 100 is a quintet of performers, writers, filmmakers and all-around big-mouths unafraid to tell you exactly what they think -- whether you want to hear it or not.
Whether they're doing it for the greater good of gays everywhere -- like our last bunch, The Rabblerousers, say they are -- or just to make a name for themselves, The Provocateurs continue to force the uncomfortable (and sometimes very necessary) truth out of the shadows and into a national conversation.
(Don't forget to keep voting in the Gaybies -- formerly known as the BreakOut Awards -- for the Out 100 of tomorrow.)

Wow.
Perez Hilton featured as someone we should be proud of? Is this what we've come to now?
I know that there ARE bitchy, queeny, stereotypical gays out there (hey! I count myself among them) but when it is a bitchy, queeny, stereotypical gay who makes a living of ripping people apart (requiring little intellect, level of literacy and/or dignity) I have to ask: why are we celebrating him and his "accomplishments"?

I'm not gay, but I wandered over hear through a link from another site. No offense, but there's got to be better role models than this guy, right? Like community leaders maybe? Or do only the famous people count as role models?

I think to give this attention to Perez, a man that makes his living to help instill negative stereotypes about gays, all the while by further alienating himself from a gay community that pays him little attention truly disturbs me.
People wonder why gay publications suffer and I think it stems solely from the fact that they don't pay attention to their audience.

Thank god so many other people DO now subscribe; who wants to identify with the pious losers on this talk board who think the only good gays are respectable gays. More please.

If OUT magazine has any balls at all they'll draw, in white letters, across Perez's face -- Unfunny! and then have a little white dribble coming from his mouth. Just like he does at his site. But no...OUT actually thinks our community takes Perez seriously. Thank God I don't subscribe any more.

Point blank, I'll never buy a magazine that gives any attention to Perez Hilton.

sorry, this is Perez Hilton?!
That's something NOT to be proud of...

I am SO glad I already cancelled my Out subscription and subscribed to Instinct instead. They just feature more interesting articles and don't put in this kind of crap.

Why are we helping to make Perez Hilton feel good about himself, when all he does is make people feel awful about themselves? I hope that OUT magazing is proud to stand by their decision to stoop so low, they can now officially call themselves a tabloid. What's next? Perez as Grand Marshal for Pride parades across the country? Shame on you, OUT.

How sad and discouraging that a publication like Out magazine has stooped so low as to put Perez Hilton in their magazine. My magazine subscription will definitely not be renewed. I'll probably just toss this issue in the trash without even taking it out of the bag.

Like you Tanner, im happy I discontinued my subscription. However, I got sick of this mag 5 years ago. Thanks for your response

How sad. As a proud, gay man i find it
very sad that our community has to result in naming Perez Hilton, a person who constantly humiliates others, who is self involved and who appears to not only be of self hate but the hate of others, be on a list that is suppose to name who we are proud of.
I give up.

Just a quick thanks to OUT. You've squashed any regrets I had about canceling my subscription a few months back.

One look at the headlining picture of Perez Hilton confirms how disappointed I will be in the direction that OUT is taking with the OUT100 Awards. There are thousands of noteworthy individuals who have made positive contributions to the LGBT community and yet front and center is a meanspirited self-promoter whose greatest contribution is pilfered shots of celebrity cooch. Let's hope that the other 99 honorees are held to a higher standard.
