And now I have photographic proof of why I was prevented from blogging for 20 minutes at last night's Out 100 insanity. You can't see that Claire Danes is talking to Anne Hathaway—nor can you see in the dark that the dress she is wearing is of a rather daring lace. There were a few other moments I wanted to document at the party for posterity, but they've all disappeared in that day-after haze. That party was monster. I do remember meeting Iman upstairs and being surprised by the tough way she sticks out her hand for a shake. I rather thought she'd just give an imperial head nod. Instead, she's all, "How ya doin'?" As I left, Justin Bond was outside having a smoke. Men were offering him apartments in which to live. "I can hardly decide!" Justin said, politically.
Also I never saw Chip Kidd, who I was planning on propositioning. I guess I'll see him next lifetime. Or, just like all of you, same time next year. — Choire Sicha
We took a little break, as Ms. Hathaway and Ms. Danes were clustered around the computer here. We figgered they were having a good chat and didn't wanna interrupt. Anyway--the speeches have ended, and Heatherette took it out with a bang. Some sort of... dance music craziness is happening? That should be Dangerous Muse. The lead singer, Mike Furey, is wearing some skin-tight tight-legged suit--Italo Zucchelli, suggests my reporter. This may be it for me. The drinking is extreme, the crush is intense, and I'm going out to mingle before I pass out from hunger.
So awards are being bestowed and we had no idea that their grandness was matched by their weight. They're like, columns, around a foot tall--and they're made completely out of steel. They weigh like 15 pounds. They're going to snap Iman like a twig. Michael Kors just hoisted his quite well. Apparently he has insane upper body strength. Pat Fields is up.
Did I remember to mention that Jesse walked by as a reporter was grilling Lady Bunny? Reporter: "Are you excited about the Out 100 awards? Bunny: "Is that where I am?"
Then daniel nardicio says: "perfect that justin bond is hosting- she's out and she's 100."
Ladies and gentlemen, no one can leave a computer alone apparently.
Iman is addressing the crowd, just after Isaac Mizrahi and Justin Bond.
Meanwhile Jesse ran into Kevin Aviance and talked to him about his recent gay-bashing. He says he hopes his attackers know its more than about violence--it's about "plucking a flower from the gay garden," he said. What if he died, he said, and were unable to talk to another gay black youth?
On a lighter note, Sam would like you to know that "It's all about Sperry topsiders." I did not know this. Hey, Claire Danes is talking. I'm out.
Sorry about that. Pat Field seized the computer. It was great. Apparently the reporters are drinking because their text messages are getting sloppy. Dave J. from Out is here helping me now. We're up on the lowest of the VIP rooms, which is sort of 'charming.' Some gum chewing, some standing... you know. Iman is right behind us. In her very sassy bow. Justin Bond is talking to Jesse about 'Shortbus.' Justin says he was only on set for three days but they were a good three days because they were all the orgy scenes. Meanwhile Jesse was with Ms. Hathaway. She used to be a vegetarian it turns out but her Italian boyfriend (!!??) introduced her to prosciutto. She swears she'll never go fur but we'll see. Mr. Wainwright reports he is still a full vegetarian.
Sam just ran into Michael Kors. "Gay people are a tough fashion audience," Mr. Kors said. Understatement. "So it's an honor to be included in the Out 100." Hey what's that lace dress your date Claire Danes is wearing? Mr. Kors confessed to being "lace-obsessed." We all ran into Michael Musto, who told Jesse that interviewing Gore Vidal "makes even me feel young." Hi-o! Then Sam ran into Rufus Wainwright. Mr. W. said that as a teen he was always the kid that no one liked--and that he feels exactly the same way now. He's wearing an Edie Sedgwick t-shirt. He said she's responsible for his homosexuality. Also Sam noted that "the diamante applique on the Moet bottles is like gay Braille." Also Sam--how he type so fast on his Sidekick?--says he ran into Jay McCarroll, who said his ENORMOUS sunglasses are from a designer named "venereal disease." We're pretty sure they're Viktor & Rolf for H&M.
This place is crazily packed. Richie of Heatherette is wearing head-to-toe of his own label, reports Sam. "Weeeellll not quite. Cuz the ankle boots are Marc Jacobs and the underwear is H&M."
And the photo is of Calvin Klein's men's PR director Josh Reed, says Sam.
Justin reports the arrival of Ms. Hathaway, and says she "is super cute. She is this generation's Karen Carpenter, minus the bulimia and that Lifetime movie." Now Justin is on to Keith Boykin. "When he was on that Showtime series about wanting to be President, my friends and I thought his boyfriend was totally hot." Still is. Okay, wow Justin can text message fast. Now he says, "Officially the three best people here are on a fire escape across the street, screaming 'Michael Kors! Michael Kors!'"
Sean Lewis said he thinks it's important to recognize people who make a difference in the community. Also? Sean is wearing Chanel Noir black nail polish, reports Sam. Justin reports that Heatherette is here. Justin also says that Lydia Hearst and the one guy who once was and surely still is Marc Jacobs' boyfriend just showed, and the two of them have so much in common. Jesse is reporting that the Village Person cowboy--Randy Jones would be his name--is passing out materials for his new CD. On it, he covers Kylie's "Your Disco Needs You." He said, "First time I heard that song I knew it was the best song the Village People should've sung but didn't."
